Our Cancellation Policy for Teacher and Students
Planned Absences
If you know at the start of the term that you will be away for some dates in which you are scheduled to teach, we encourage you to share these from the beginning. This guarantees that the tutee's family's also know, and are charged accordingly for the term. In order to do this, go onto Teachworks, click on Calendar, and click on 'Add unavailability'. Enter the dates.
We encourage you to minimise this impact as much as possible to keep it consistent for your families. Another alternative is, if for example you are going away, you might choose to offer an online lesson in replace of an in-person lesson, which you can do from your location. Or you could offer a reschedule for a different day/time that week.
Student Planned Absence
Likewise, if a student will be away for a planned absence, this will be reflected in your calendar on Teachworks as a cancelled lesson in advance, and you will not be paid for this.
If your student has an unplanned absence
Missed lesson
The student cancels less than 12 hours in advance. You still need to 'complete' on Teachworks, mark as 'missed (billable)' and you will be paid in full to honour your time spent planning and preparing for the lesson.
Cancelled lesson
The student cancels more than 12 hours in advance. You still need to 'complete' on Teachworks, mark as 'cancelled >12hours notice (billable)' and you will be paid at 50% your normal rate to honour your time reservation

If you, the teacher, has an unplanned absence
If you are sick, or something else comes up and you need to cancel a lesson either the day before or on the day, can you please contact your student's whānau/caregivers and let them know you won't be able to make the lesson.
Please also contact manager@boostyourlearning.co.nz to let us know. If you would like to, you may offer to reschedule the lesson, but there is no obligation to do so. You will not get paid if you do not do that lesson.
If you find yourself in a position where you cannot contact whānau, i.e. you are really sick or something complicated comes up, we can help with this. Email manager@boostyourlearning.co.nz or call one of the admin team. Our Boost phone is checked daily, but we may not be able to answer the moment you call.
If you have cancelled the lesson and not rescheduled, at some point within that week you will still need to 'complete' the lesson on Teachworks, by clicking into it and changing the status to 'cancelled by tutor'
