FAQ

  • How does private tuition work?
Tuition with Boost Your Learning takes place anywhere across New Zealand. Following your diagnostic assessment you will be assigned the best fit tutor for your students needs. Lessons are typically one-one with a dedicated and experienced teacher. The tutor will exclusively plan for your child, building on their strengths and targetting their learning need, that were identified in the initial assessment. With your permission, our tutors can liaise with your child's class/ subject teacher to maximise the benefit of the lessons. This ensures our students have lots of opportunities to apply new skills. Lessons can take place before, during or after school depending on tutor availability.
  • How does online tuition work?
Learning online is an easy and convenient to bring high quality learning experiences to your own home, no matter where you live. To commence online learning, students must have a computer and a high speed internet access. We will communicate using our fully integrated platform Lesson Space, where we can see and hear each other. We use an interactive whiteboard tool that the students can write on and we are able to upload videos, images and learning slides for use before, during and after the class. Each student with us has their very own 'Lesson Space' which saves progress so learning is completely adaptive to your child's needs and experiences can be built upon each week. The benefits of online lessons include: - Opportunity to review materials in advance of the lesson - Ability to take photos and record important parts of the lesson to review at a later date. - Online interactive tools to make learning fun and interesting - The same high quality learning experience you would have in a face to face lesson. -Screen sharing ability to be able to share and access course materials in real time.
  • What subjects do you tutor?
We are specialists in numeracy and literacy and we also support lessons in science. On occassion, we have supported students with literacy based skills in other subjects (such as history, technology or drama). When you book tuition with us, our experienced tutors work exclusively with your child in mind. So we are always open to any special requirements.
  • Can you support students with specific learning difficulties?
Yes! We celebrate the uniqueness of every student and strongly believe that every student is capable of success under the right tutelage. We only employ highly experienced, nurturing teachers to work at Boost your Learning. If your child has a specific learning difficulty we can discuss this at your initial consultation. We have tutors with experience in supporting a range of learning differences such as: - Dyslexia (MSL trained tutors available) - Dyscalculia - Auditory Processing Disorder - Autism - ADHD and ADD We understand the challenges that a busy classroom can present, particularly for students with learning differences. We pride ourselves on clear, sequential instruction to allow your child to grow in confidence and academic ability.
  • How is progress measured?
An initial assessment will be carried out prior to commencing tuition. We then develop a learning plan, aligned with the national curriculum, which is shared with you and the student. Each of our learning sessions will focus on a key area and our tutors will provide regular feedback. As experienced teachers, we constantly adapt our practice to ensure your child is always learning optimally. Students will be given a small amount of homework, where you will be able to see the progress in action at home. At the end of each term, each student is provided a formal report of their learning.
  • What are your rates?
Our rates reflect the quality of service you will receive and the experience and subject knowledge of our tutors Lessons are invoiced on a termly basis and can be paid in lump sum or by standing order either weekly or fortnightly. Lessons must be paid in advance. 1 hour lesson: $130 NZD (INCL. GST) 45 minute lesson: $100 NZD (INCL. GST) 30 minute lesson: $80 NZD (INCL. GST) We also encourage you to book a diagnostic assessment in order to determine your child's current skills and abilities, so we can create a bespoke action plan to accelerate their learning.

However, we are aware that from time to time unavoidable circumstances can prevent your child attending a session. Therefore we ask that you inform your tutor immediately if you need to cancel.
