Ending your sessions well- keeping quality in mind

Finish up your lesson well

  1. Did the student leave the lesson feeling confident about a new concept (if not, take a moment to address this)?

  2. Does the student know what to do between sessions to maintain success (indicate homework)?

  3. Leave the session with some words of encouragement, summing up what was learned and how this will help the student in their bigger goals.

  4. Set some relevant homework for the next session and make sure you build in time at the beginning of the next session to revisit this task and provide feedback.

Don’t underestimate the immense impact you can have on both a student's understanding of a topic and, more importantly, their own belief system. Always use your teacher powers for good.
